Checks from several regions
One region cannot see the service, the others can? That is a local network issue, not an outage.
Where to check from
The task
A check from a single location makes mistakes: a provider’s network failure looks like the service is down, and the person on call is woken up for nothing.
How it is solved
The check runs from the selected regions independently. The majority decides the final state: if a minority of regions fail, the resource becomes “degraded”, not “down”. The region is saved in every run and alert.
What is included
- An independent schedule in each region
- A majority decision across regions
- The region in every run and alert
- On-demand run in all regions at once
Limitations
- The number of regions per monitor is limited by the plan.
- Regions do not apply to checks through a private agent or to heartbeats.
