Heartbeat for background jobs
A nightly export or backup silently failed to start? Heartbeat will notice it in the morning before you do.
Checks
The task
Background jobs have no address that can be polled. When they stop working, it is discovered days later, by the consequences.
How it is solved
After it runs, the job sends a request with a token to the signal receiving URL. If no signal arrives within the interval and grace period, the check counts as failed and an alert opens. A ready-made curl command is in the monitor settings.
What is included
- A signal receiving URL with the token in a header or parameter
- A grace period on top of the interval, so a delay does not cause an alarm
- A ready-made curl command to paste into the job
- Reissuing the token in one click
Limitations
- A heartbeat cannot be run manually: the result comes only from the job itself.
- Regions are not selected for a heartbeat: the signal is sent from your side.
Questions about this feature
What if a job runs longer than usual?
Set a grace period. The check waits for the interval plus this period and only then counts as failed.
